Instead of having to drive to Olathe, Shawnee or Lawrence for lumber, plumbing parts, drills or paint, we could have a hardware store for home improvement goods, tools, paint, etc. If it is a municipal enterprise, then you fulfill an unmet demand, and probably keep or bring people in town and they might grab a bite to eat while here and you create an additional source of revenue.
Between having great schools, a grocery store and (hopefully fiber internet soon) you would add a hardware store to the amenity list making living in the city limits more desirable.

With the addition of Panasonic to the cites tax base. The city should soon be swimming in money. The city needs a complete makeover, streets, lights, sidewalks and sewer lines not just to the west side but east as well. 83rd street going East could be widened, and kill creek road could have a side walk at least to the K10 overpass.
